The Business of Information Assurance Workshop: Building and Protecting Customer Trust, One Partner at a Time
Featuring Microsoft Security MVP Dana Epp

What Matters is Protecting Information

Business owners generally don't really care about computer hardware. Or operating systems. Or business software. They care about what it produces. The data. The information. The information assets. And they care that their business continues to function, to drive their revenues.

Too many IT professionals forget about that. They treat information assurance as an afterthought. A line item to sell antivirus or a tape backup system. And it's a disservice to the clients they are responsible to protect.

At Scorpion Software, we are doing something about that. Alongside our award winning strong authentication and identity assurance solutions like AuthAnvil that help to control access to sensitive information, we help our partners to learn how to properly approach security and how to appropriately mitigate risk to acceptable levels for their own customers.

And that is what this workshop is about.

Attendees will learn how to discuss business and technical risk to business owners, how to build an asset catalog, and how to build a consultive trusted advisory process to generate new revenues in response to the application of risk mitigation techniques. This will help attendees to explore and find business opportunity while protecting their clients most critical information assets.

Workshop Agenda

PART 1 - UNDERSTANDING WHY SECURITY IS A PROCESS, NOT A PRODUCT
Learn how to be able to discuss business and technical risk with business owners, and explore why selling security on fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) is counter productive and actually breaches trust with your clients, instead of building it. Audience participation includes role playing exercises with the speaker and your peers at the workshop to learn how to have such conversations in a positive manner with clients. The objective is to give you a comfort level in approaching your clients in a more trusted advisory and consultive manner.

PART 2 - BUILDING ASSET CATALOGS
Once you know HOW to talk with you clients, you need to know WHAT to talk about. In this section we will explore how to build asset catalogs for your clients and learn how to find information assets in their organization. You will learn how to prioritize the value of assets through customer interviews, and find what is most at risk, and what is not.

PART 3 - BUILDING A SECURITY WORK PLAN
Once you have built an asset catalog, you will then be able to take this information and build a risk reduction work plan that may include the sale and deployment of technical safeguards and services to properly protect these assets. In this section you will learn how to advise your clients on a reasonable schedule to reduce risk to an acceptable level over time through your services.

PART 4 - MANAGING YOUR LIABILITY AND STAFF ACCOUNTABILITY
Once you have made the sale, your responsibility doesn't end there. Now your staff will need to actually perform the work, protect the information assets and manage the systems. To help reduce your own liability and increase your staff's accountability when doing this, we will explore the value of deploying strong authentication to provide identity assurance and audit controls to do this. By the end of this section, you will clearly understand the value of strong authentication and how it will help you gain advantage over your competition while reducing your own business risk.

PART 5 - INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING AUTHANVIL
Time to put theory to the test. In this section we will complete a live installation and configuration of AuthAnvil, Scorpion Software's Strong Authentication Server (SAS). You will see just how easy it is to deploy while learning the tips and tricks on hardening the installation and getting the most out of it's feature set. You will learn the best practices in using AuthAnvil as part of your audit controls in your IT firm, and learn how to get the most out of AuthAnvil to control access to the very information you have been hired to protect by your clients.

PART 6 - MANAGING AUTHANVIL THROUGH KASEYA AUTOMATION
Deploying access control to protect information assurance is one thing. Managing it is entirely different. Learn how AuthAnvil and Kaseya work together to add strong authentication to the Kaseya Management Console while also taking advantage of this powerful platform to deploy, manage and monitor AuthAnvil servers and agents across all endpoints that you need to protect.
